The Forest of Dean District Council and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are responsible for making sure that existing and new businesses in the district comply with health and safety regulations.

The council are responsible for making sure that the following types of premises in the district comply with health and safety regulations:

  • Warehouses
  • Offices and shops
  • Retail and wholesale outlets
  • Hotels and catering establishments
  • Places of worship
  • Residential care homes
  • Leisure centres
  • Art galleries, cinemas and theatres
  • Tyre, battery and exhaust retailers

 

The Food and Safety Team carry out health and safety activities to help prevent accidents and ill health in the workplace. They do this by inspecting workplaces to make sure that risks from work are properly managed, investigating accidents or occupational ill health and investigating complaints about working conditions or work practices. More positively officers also make recommendations of good practice and provide advice on any aspect of health and safety to help create a safe working environment.
