The aim of the environmental health service is to protect and improve the health of all the people who live in, visit or work in the Forest of Dean by protecting their safety and environment. The services we provide affect the quality of life of everyone in the area. We are involved in a wide range of duties including:
- Food safety and nutrition
- Dog warden service
- Pest control
- Noise and nuisance complaints
- Workplace health and safety
- Licensing
- Air quality and pollution monitoring
- Contaminated land investigation
The team is staffed with professionally qualified environmental health officers (EHOs) and technical officers and supported by a dedicated administration team. There are approximately 4000 annual service requests across the team covering the whole remit of environmental health. In addition the team inspects a wide range of food and work premises and administer licence applications, renewals and variations.
Enforcement policy and procedures
Much of the work we do is ensuring that people are complying with legislation. Where someone is not complying with the legislation we have a duty to take action – this is called enforcement. The council has written an enforcement policy to ensure that all enforcement work is carried out in a fair, practical and consistent manner. The enforcement policy can be downloaded below:
