The Forest of Dean District Council is responsible for the collection of council tax for 36,000 domestic properties. The tax collected funds the services it provides together with those provided by Gloucestershire county council, the local parish councils, and the Gloucestershire police authority.
The annual council tax charge is still not enough money to pay for all the services required. In order to make up the difference each local authority is given additional monies known as the revenue support grant by the government. The grant each authority will receive is based on the needs, resources and population of the local area.
