The following guidance is offered to help those wishing to engage the services of a tree surgeon or consultant.
- Tree contractors (Tree surgeons) carry out tree maintenance (pruning, bracing operations), tree felling (including dismantling of dangerous trees or trees in confined spaces), and provide advice on pests, diseases and their control. They provide general advice on tree management and maintenance.
- Arboricultural Consultants investigate cases where trees are alleged to be involved in structural damage to buildings. Provide advice in relation to tree preservation law, trees and development, assess trees for hazard and where appropriate remedial work. Provide expert witness testimony to courts and inquiries.
The Arboricultural Association website: www.trees.org.uk , provides guidance on the questions to ask when selecting a tree contractor.
