Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Easy Walks Booklet

The Wye Valley & Forest of Dean Tourism Association have produced a booklet of easy walks in the local area.  The guide is a gentle introduction to the region and contains twelve manageable strolls for anyone who wants to spend a short time walking without a great deal of effort.  The walks are suitable for older people, the less able, young families and inexperienced walkers and no specialised clothing or equipment is required to do the walks.  All routes are on wellworn paths, tracks and lanes which should be easy to locate.  The booklet contains sketched route maps indicating the starting points, car parks, gates, features of natural and historic interest and stunning viewpoints.  The ordnance survey map grid reference indicates the start of the walks on each map.  The distance of each route is made clear, allowing you to judge whether the walk is suitable and some of the walks have optional shortcuts.  Click here to visit the www.wyedeantourism.co.uk/general_walks.html page on the Forest of Dean District Councils web site or click on Forest of Dean Easy Walks Guide to download the booklet.

Parkrun

The Forest of Dean District Council has embraced the National Parkrun Project and has organised a series of weekly FREE running sessions in conjunction with the Forest of Dean Athletics Club and with the support of the Forestry Commission.  The sessions are run by volunteers and take place every Saturday morning leaving at 9.00am for Adults.  There is also a Junior Parkrun which is held on the last Saturday of the month starting at 10.00am.  The Forest of Dean Parkrun location is in the wooded Coverham Enclosure opposite the Royal Forest of Dean College, Five Acres, Coleford, Glos. GL16 7JT.  Click on the following link to view the Forest of Dean Parkrun location and the course map http://www.parkrun.org.uk/forest-of-dean/Course.aspx or click here to download the Forest version of the Park Run Course Map. The 5km course is through a safe woodland route with no road crossings.  The sessions are all about fun, as runners will be competing against the clock and not against each other.  Tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be available at the finish for all those taking part and everyone is welcome to stay and chat to fellow runners.  To register for Parkrun visit www.parkrun.org.uk/Register/RegisterUK.aspx  and follow the instructions.  Remember to register your home run as Forest of Dean Parkrun.  Once registered you can take part in any parkrun in the country.  To volunteer as a helper email forest-of-deanHelpers@parkrun.com. For more information regarding Parkrun read the FAQ section on the top right hand side of the Parkrun homepage by clicking on the following link www.parkrun.org.uk/forestofdean
