Adapting to change has been the key to success for Milbury Systems, a specialist in agri-building products that has developed a major new manufacturing facility in Lydney.
From supplier to manufacturer
With the support of Forest of Dean Council, Milbury Systems director Paul Eaton has moved from being a supplier of pre-cast and pre-stressed concrete systems to a front-line manufacturer of pre-cast concrete panels for the agricultural and construction sectors.
The business had been based in Tickenham, Bristol, after being established 30 years ago to build silage stores out of pre-cast concrete panels for the farming community. Subsequently, Milbury Systems has expanded to become a specialist in all manner of pre-stressed and pre-cast concrete structures for storage and retention of materials, and the latest move has been to a new manufacturing site in Lydney.
Following an exhaustive search for new premises, Milbury Systems selected a 3,700 sq m (40,000 sq ft) building on Lydney Industrial Estate.
Location
“As a location Lydney has many advantages,” explains Paul Easton. “Land and buildings are affordable and it is centrally located in the UK, close to the main motorway network and we find a plentiful supply of labour. Being in Lydney is also very advantageous for us because it means we are close to a good supply of aggregates which cut our costs considerably. The Forest of Dean compares very favourably with traditional industrial areas such as South Wales. Being a stone’s throw from the main M4 and M5 routes is also a great bonus for us.”
The product
Today, Milbury supplies and delivers structures for agricultural storage and livestock walling, soil retention, construction of cellars, below ground parking, materials storage, security walls and blast walls to name just a few. However, they are particularly proud of their Rocket Wall Unit which offers an even greater alternative to flexible storage solutions.
“Concrete panels are the ideal solution for the progressive farm where the adaptability of buildings is important,” explains Paul Eaton. “The simplicity and speed of installation makes Milbury Systems' panels a much more attractive proposition than alternative walling.”
Milbury Systems silage panels are made from high quality pre-stressed concrete designed in accordance with BS5502. It also specialises in a range of tanks that are suitable for uses in waste treatment, storm-balancing, anaerobic digesters, industrial processing, landfill leachate, irrigation, slurry, sludge, filter beds, aeration and sedimentation.
