Following the adoption of the Core Strategy and the Cinderford Northern Quarter Area Action Plan in February 2012, much of the 2005 Local Plan has been superceded and is no longer part of the Development Plan. The Planning Policies that have been prepared by the Forest of Dean District Council and are now in force are as follows:
- Policies in the old 2005 Local Plan (as saved 2008) - most policies which allocate or identify land are still in force

As part of the transitionary arrangements for the 2004 Act, local plan policies were saved for 3 years from adoption in 15th November 2008. A direction letter from the Government Office for the South West (GOEM) dated 21th October 2008 identified policies to be saved after 15th November 2008
