The council welcomes petitions and recognises that petitions are one way in which people can let us know their concerns. All petitions sent or presented to the council will receive an acknowledgement from the council within 10 working days of receipt. This acknowledgement will set out what we plan to do with the petition. We will treat something as a petition if it is identified as being a petition, or if it seems to us that it is intended to be a petition. For guidance please read the Council's petition scheme.
An e-Petition is a quick and easy way to bring issues to the attention of our councillors and influence local decision making. e-Petitions allows you to submit a petition through our website, rather than just on paper and allows you to reach a greater audience with your petition. Once approved, individuals can view your e-Petition online, log on and sign your petition and monitor its progress.
Paper petitions can be sent to:
Forest of Dean District Council
Petitions can also be presented to a meeting of the council. These meetings take place 6 times a year, dates and times can be found at council meetings. If you would like to present your petition to the council, or would like your councillor or someone else to present it on your behalf, please contact Democratic Services on 01594 812625 at least 10 working days before the meeting and they will talk you through the process. If your petition has received 800 signatures or more it will also be scheduled for a council debate which will take place at a Full Council meeting and if this is the case we will let you know whether this will happen at the same meeting or a later meeting of the council.
If you require any further advice or assistance, please contact the Democratic Services Team.
