Health Walks

Volunteer led walkers

Health Walks are organised volunteer-led walks that last between 30-55 minutes.  They are FREE to take part in and are a great way to help you get more active and meet new people.  They are suitable for everyone.

Walking is a fantastic form of activity and offers a number of benefits including:

  • Helps to Prevent Diabetes
  • Increases Good Cholesterol Levels
  • Improve Mental Health
  • Helps to Reduce Weight
  • Benefits the Immune System
  • Improves Muscle Strength
  • Reduces the Risk of Falls in the Elderly
  • Prevents the Development of Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis in Certain Groups
  • Reduces Blood Pressure
  • Improves Lung and Heart Function

To gain real benefits from a walk you need to walk at an itensity which makes you breathe a little faster, feel warmer and have a slightly faster heart beat.  The intensity should be comfortable and you should still be able to talk!
