Road Closures for Events

Closing public highways can be a complex legal matter. An application must be made in writing to Forest of Dean District Council or Gloucestershire County Council so that the implications of the closure can be assessed. Only closures of minor roads or streets can generally be considered and there can be a charge to obtain an order. All temporary signs will require specific approval from the highway authority.

Some events require a road closure to enable an event to take place safely. This could be for a short period of time to enable a carnival procession to pass along a road or for the whole day where the event may be taking place on the road in a town centre.

2012 sees the Queen’s Jubilee and many street parties are anticipated that may require a road closure. We wish to avoid any problems with diversions into adjacent streets that may also be holding parties. Gloucestershire County Council will therefore be dealing with all street party closure applications in this District.
