Full Council adopts Core Strategy and Cinderford Area Action Plan

Forest of Dean District Council has now adopted the Core Strategy and Cinderford Area Action Plan.
Release Date: Feb 24, 2012

Forest of Dean District Council has now adopted the Core Strategy and Cinderford Area Action Plan.

At a packed full council meeting last night members agreed to adopt the documents which set out the planning framework for how the area will develop until 2026.
The documents have been examined fully by a Planning Inspector who in January told the council the document was “sound” and he was happy for it to be adopted subject to minor changes which have been made.
The Core Strategy is the main planning policy document for the district and contains the broad principles for sustainable development until 2026. The Cinderford AAP is a document which forms a blueprint for the regeneration of the Northern Quarter, an area to the north-west of the town.
The Planning Inspector, appointed by Central Government, carried out a detailed public examination of the Core Strategy and AAP in October last year. The Inspector found that the council has sufficient evidence to support both the Core Strategy and the AAP and confirmed that both documents provide an appropriate basis for the planning in the area over the next 15 years.
The Inspector was therefore happy for the documents to be adopted by the council.
Approval of the Cinderford AAP allows partners on the Cinderford Regeneration Board to deliver the planned regeneration.  A key stage will be the construction of a new Northern Quarter spine road, unlocking the site for a mix of new, high quality commercial and residential development.
Cllr Brian Robinson, cabinet member for Efficient Council and Planning Policy said: “Having the Core Strategy approved is a big milestone for the district and a major step forward as it gives us an up-to-date background for making balanced planning decisions, recognising the need for new development whilst protecting what is important about our existing environment. A great deal of work has been done to get us to this stage.”
Cllr Patrick Molyneux, Leader of the Council and cabinet member for Regeneration added: “We are delighted to have adopted the Cinderford Area Action Plan as it means we are now able to start work on delivering the long awaited regeneration of the Northern Quarter. There has been a lot of talking and consulting to get to this stage and things won’t happen overnight but now is the time residents will start to see the work come to fruition.”
