Council shows support for the Armed Forces

Forest of Dean District Council will demonstrate its support for the Armed Forces community in a flag-raising ceremony
Release Date: Jun 20, 2012

Forest of Dean District Council will demonstrate its support for the Armed Forces community in a flag-raising ceremony on Monday 25 June attended by soldiers from the district-based First Battalion The Rifles. The flag will fly throughout the week, marking the run up to Armed Forces Day, Saturday 30 June.

Members of the public are welcome to come along to the ceremony that starts at 10.30am. Representatives from the Royal British Legion will also be attending.

Council chairman Cllr Norman Stephens said: “The council is holding this event to show its support and appreciation of all those men and women who serve and have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. They do a fantastic job and it’s so important we recognise the outstanding work that our armed forces community does.

“In particular we are doing this to demonstrate our support for our local Battalion, 1Rifles, who are part of our own Forest of Dean community. We also remind ourselves of all the service families who have to endure regular and long periods of separation.”

He added: “I’m very pleased to be supporting this event, which is in recognition of the wonderful work that our Armed Forces do. Please give a thought to the men and women of the Royal Navy, Army and the Royal Air Force. We recognise the loyalty and commitment shown by them and those that have served in the past, on behalf of our country.”
