Cllr Brian Robinson, Deputy Leader of the Council and cabinet member for Efficient Council and Planning Policy said: “We have aimed to keep the costs as low as possible whilst also ensuring that people who use the car parks contribute towards the running costs. As a result of the responses to the statutory consultation we decided to reduce the parking charges for up to one hour to 20p from 40p and up to two hours to 50p from 70p.

“We also renamed residents’ permits to overnight permits to help shift workers and made season tickets monthly, quarterly or six-monthly as well as annual.

“Permits and tickets will be able to be used by the holder which means people can share their permit in their household or place of work, helping them to get the best value for money. They will also be transferable between car parks meaning people can park in one town and then go on to park in other towns on the same permit or valid ticket.”
