Council launches this year’s #LoveYourForest car sticker competition to highlight rural litter
The Forest of Dean District Council is inviting the public to join in with this year’s #LoveYourForest anti-litter campaign and enter the car window sticker competition which launches this week (3 June).
The competition aims to raise awareness of rural litter - and in particular rubbish found at the side of the road, such as fast food packaging, cigarette butts, paper coffee cups, plastic bottles and drinks cans.
To take part, residents simply need to pick up a #LoveYourForest window sticker - which pledges to the ‘keep the Forest of Dean clean’ - and display it in their vehicle. Throughout the summer, all vehicles spotted with a sticker will be entered into the weekly draw to have the chance to win a prize donated by a local business or tourist attraction.
The winning registration plates will be published in the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley Review, on the Council’s website and on #LoveYourForest’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Stickers can be collected from a number of locations including libraries, village shops, leisure centres, tourist destinations and visitor sites as well as from the District Council’s offices in Coleford. A full list of participating outlets can be found on the Council’s website www.fdean.gov.uk/loveyourforest
Prizes up for grabs include: tickets for Go Ape (or Tree Top Juniors if preferred); an afternoon tea for four at Dean Valley Manor; a voucher to spend at Forest Deli (Coleford); Studio Cinema tickets; a hamper from Ruardean’s Bare Necessities store; a tour for Hillside Brewery (Longhope); a voucher to spend at Taurus Crafts; tickets for Dean Forest Railway; a four-person ticket to an Al Fresco Cinema screening at Beechenhurst (choice of Harry Potter and the Prisoner from Azkaban or Bohemian Rhapsody) in August; Forestry Commission Discovery passes; a ‘litter-free’ picnic kit; a One4All giftcard donated by Biffa; and half-day family leisure bike hire for PedalABikeAway.
Stickers can also be collected from the #LoveYourForest Trashconverter trailer which will be out and about at various events across the district. Dates and locations can be found on the #LoveYourForest Facebook page and Twitter feed.
Motorists who are already displaying a #LoveYourForest sticker do not need a new one.
The #LoveYourForest campaign is supported by environmental charity Hubbub, Lucozade Ribena Suntory, Forest of Dean District Council, Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism, Forestry Commission and Foresters’ Forest.
