Short Term/Holiday Lets - Waste Collection

Regulations for Waste management for Short Term/Holiday Lets

Under The Controlled Waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2012 (CWR), properties used for business purposes, including short term or holiday lets, must manage their waste as business waste.

The following steps are required:

  • They must sign up with a business waste collection provider who will supply them with a Waste Transfer Note (Duty of Care certificate), to confirm compliance. Evidence of a Waste Transfer Note will be required should there be an audit or inspection by the Forest of Dean District Council, or the Environment Agency.

  • They are required to pay for business waste collections and should not benefit from Domestic collections which are funded by Council Tax.

To make this as straightforward as possible, Forest of Dean District Council can allow for waste collections for short-term or holiday lets to continue on the usual domestic collection rounds, however a charge will need to be applied to reflect that we are collecting from a business.

This ensures a fair approach across all commercial businesses but with no change to how or when the bins at your property are collected, and avoids having to source and arrange a separate contractor. This helps keep costs and administration to a minimum while remaining compliant.

To continue receiving collections by the Forest of Dean District Council, you will need to register for this service. The steps for obtaining a quote and signing up to receive a Waste Transfer Note, can be found below.

Option 1

The Council is able to provide a waste collection service for Short Term/Holiday Lets.  The standard residential service already in place will remain, with no change to the current collection schedule, however collections will be chargeable, to ensure you comply with legislation.

You can request a quote via the following link:

Option 2

Alternatively, there are a range of business waste collection providers in the area available to suit your needs and these are easily found by searching the internet.

Should you choose this option, once you have arranged for the collections, you will need to send a copy of the Waste Transfer Note you are supplied with, to [email protected]. This provides confirmation that you are compliant with current legislation.
