Strategic housing land availability assessment
Each year we invite submissions from organisations and the general public to identify land which may be suitable for accommodating housing development in the future, in their annual call for sites.
This year, we were also interested in land which may be suitable for employment areas, or a combination of both employment and housing.
Submissions closed on Sunday 29 March 2020 to be considered in the 2020 Strategic housing and economic land availability assessment (SHELAA).
The SHELAA considers the development potential of a range of different sites across the District for housing and employment. The SHELAA 2020 will build on previous assessments of land availability in the Forest of Dean district, including the most recent report.
All the previous SHLAA sites are available to view on an online map.
2020 SHELAA submissions
We are now looking to assess each submission to the 2020 SHELAA round to see which ones should be included in the register of potential development sites. This is a list of sites that could be developed for housing or employment uses, but do not currently comply with current planning policy. The list is formed with the aid of a panel representing the development industry, agents, registered providers and Council representatives. Due to Coronavirus the sites will be considered online through a virtual panel.
As travel and site visits are curtailed it is hoped that the sites can be assessed and published using existing information, the details submitted and other online material.
To consider the sites, details and maps will be circulated and these will be publicly accessible as with all SHELAA material. We will only disclose the name or name of the agent, we will not disclose contact details. If you would like to amend any of the information submitted or remove it from the process please let us know.
Sites for future developments
If you would still like to submit a site to us for consideration, please fill in the site submission form which needs to be accompanied by the following basic information:
- a map showing the site boundary, ideally at a scale of 1:1250;
- any information relating to land ownership with contact details i.e. telephone number and email;
- any details that you think may be relevant to the assessment of the site.
Although the assessment will form an important evidence source, the assessment does not determine whether a site should be allocated for housing development in the future. Currently the Forest of Dean district has an adequate supply of land for housing, so any sites that come forward may be considered on a long-term basis and retained in our database.
For information about the proposed methodology for the SHLAA please read the methodology document.
