Collections in bad weather

Updates will be available on our Facebook page and Twitter feed. Residents can also call the council on 01594 810000.

We will also inform local radio stations if the decision to suspend waste collections is made.

We will try to maintain services as long as it is safe to do so, we assess conditions and take into account:

  • health and safety of the crews and the public
  • being able to manoeuvre vehicles safely
  • the accessibility of the depot, disposal sites and properties due for collection each day
  • the weather forecast

Missed collections in bad weather

If your collection is missed due to weather conditions leave it out for an extra:

  • week for general waste
  • two working days for recycling

If we have not been able to return during this time please take your containers in and present them on your next scheduled collection day.  Extra refuse will be taken in black sacks if your collection was missed.

If your garden waste has not been emptied on your scheduled day please take the green bin back in until your next collection. You will be allowed to put out additional green waste in sacks.

If collections are missed, a catch up plan will be put in place so that crews will return as soon as conditions improve. The crews will work late and on Saturdays as required and if the weather conditions allow.

Missed general waste collections will be given priority. This may mean that the garden waste service is temporarily suspended whilst we catch up.
