Community rehabilitation classes
Cardiac rehabilitation
The cardiac rehabilitation community based exercise programme (phase 4) offers a safe and friendly environment for exercise if you have had:
- a heart attack
- a heart procedure
- heart surgery
All activities in the programme will be supervised by a qualified fitness professional.
Those joining phase 4 of the scheme have normally recently completed NHS rehabilitation classes (phase 3) but this is not essential.
Cancer rehabilitation
Classes provide support and exercise options to improve overall wellbeing. Aimed at those who have completed a period of treatment and are looking to regain strength and stamina, those waiting for treatment, and for rehabilitation further to attendance at Macmillan next steps programme.
Exercise for strength and balance to reduce falls risk
Following a referral from your GP, Practice Nurse, or Physiotherapist, the scheme promotes balance and confidence while helping to:
- prevent falls and improve stamina
- increase strength, mobility and flexibility
- lower the risk of osteoporosis
- improve blood pressure and cholesterol
All activities in the programme are supervised by a qualified fitness professional.
Getting a referral
If you are eligible and interested to attend a class for rehabilitation:
- talk to your GP, nurse, or physiotherapist
- call or contact your local leisure centre
