Member Champions

Member Champions at the Forest of Dean District Council provide a link across a variety of different subjects, working with officers at the Council but are also connected to a network of groups and people with skills in their field. Together they are working to assist and support communities across the Forest. 

Each Forest of Dean District Council Member Champion is the spokesperson for the policy area or 'portfolio' they are responsible for:

Armed Forces Champion - Cllr Alan Preest

The Armed Forces Champion works with officers from the Armed Forces Support Network at the Forest of Dean District Council to support serving and past members of the Armed Forces and their families.

Equity, Diversion, Inclusion and the Voice of the Seldom Heard Champion - Cllr Trevor Roach

Forest of Dean District Council's Champion for Equity, Diversion, Inclusion and the Voice of the Seldom Heard works with officers and partners to ensure that everybody's voice is recognised and heard, particularly those from minority ethnic backgrounds, disabled persons, and those with limited digital access.

Community Wellbeing: Supporting Young People Champion - Cllr David Wheeler

The Community Wellbeing: Supporting Young People Champion works with partners to make sure that the voices of young people across the Forest of Dean are being heard and championed by the Council and others.

Live Longer Better Champion - Cllr Beth Llewellyn

The Live Longer Better Champion will work with officers and partners to help improve community wellbeing across the district, including promoting active and healthy lifestyles for all residents, with a specific focus on older and vulnerable people, but also around the prevention agenda.

Financial Inclusion and Advice Services Champion - Cllr Di Martin

The Financial Inclusion and Advice Services Champion works with partners from across the district to ensure that residents are able to easily find and access assistance should they be facing financial hardship.

Retrofit Champion - Cllr Alison Bruce

Forest of Dean District Council's Retrofit Champion works with officers, partners and local residents to provide advice on retrofit schemes that can help ensure residents homes are energy efficient, well insulated, and cost effective in the long run. 

River Water Quality Champion - Cllr Andrew McDermid

The River Water Quality Champion works with members of the Council's Water Improvement Group to identify and measure pollution sources, monitor and publish the data, and to involve the public, especially young people, in caring for the Forest's waterways. 

Active Travel Champion - Cllr Richard Burton

The Active Travel Champion works alongside officers and partners to help improve and promote active travel routes in the Forest of Dean. This includes holding public consultations on potential new active travel routes.
